Preparing for Retirement Workshop

This ongoing education module is a checklist to help participants get organized about their nearing retirement. This module was developed for those with 5 years or less until retirement. The objective is to give participants the tools to prepare for their retirement needs and show them their options, such as how much they will need and how they can get there. It also helps them prepare for where they will retire, whether they will have other sources of retirement income, Medicare, etc. Online resources are listed for additional guidance. The brochure is also accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation.

This comprehensive 8 page booklet of worksheets allows participants to calculate their income vs. expenses, anticipate future income needs and future expenses, and determine how much money they will need for retirement and how long they may need to work.

"Knowledge is Retirement Power" Workshop

Used to target newly eligible employees, employees who are currently not participating in their retirement plan, or employees with little or no investing experience. The goal of this workshop is to help participants gain the confidence and motivation to join and understand the benefits of their retirement plan. This workshop is available in Spanish.

"Asset Allocation" Workshop

The "Asset Allocation" seminar is a very down-to-earth, practical introduction to the concept of asset allocation, which is so important to a successful retirement saving strategy. It covers what asset allocation is and why it's important. Useful information about tools that can be used in determining an individual asset allocation, such as learning about investment types and investment risks, is described. There is also a detailed discussion of diversification, as well as the concept of the risk and reward spectrum.

 

Included is a helpful guide that summarizes the major types of investments, diversification, understanding risk, and general asset allocation models to help attendees visualize their personal investment mix. Included are a risk tolerance quiz, sample model portfolios, and questions and answers about topics such as inflation and types of investment risk.

"Retirement Readiness" Workshop

"The Retirement Readiness" program includes an effective PowerPoint presentation, which focuses on improving one's financial prospects for retirement. It describes the obstacles that many people face when trying to figure out how to save for retirement, like overcoming emotions, inertia, procrastination, lack of self-control and risk aversion. There is a helpful discussion of why starting now, even at just a 1% contribution rate, can really pay off in retirement savings. The power of compounding and the potential growth when investing in the stock market are presented in practical terms, as is the cost of waiting to start saving.

 

The presentation is supported by a brochure which reinforces many of the key points made in the seminar, and includes resources for additional information. Also included is a worksheet the help participants find cash in their budget to put into retirement savings.
